Dairy products

Since 2007, the Leopard Conservation Foundation has been implementing programs aimed at reducing leopard-human conflict by protecting the leopard’s prey and supporting its livelihoods among herders living in areas where the world’s endangered snow leopard is found. One of these is the “Milk and Dairy Program,” which has been implemented since 2020. This program involves about 150 households from more than 10 herder communities in Uvs, Khovd, Gobi-Altai, and Uvurkhangai aimags, and aims to create a local brand of milk and dairy products and introduce them to the local market.

Program objectives:

  • To create local branded dairy products that meet market quality standards

  • Developing the domestic market and empowering pastoralist communities to compete in the market

  • Establish a mechanism to support community-based funds to improve management of protected areas under the responsibility of snow leopard communities.
